HTML Test for the Nested <object> Tag for Alternate Content

The item below is a set of nested <object> tags that should attempt to display a TIFF image, then a GIF image, then a JPEG image, and finally display some text and a GIF image using the <img> tag should either one of the <object> tags fail to display. IE, however, will display all three <object> tags—a behavior that is completely wrong.
